Under the heat of an Aussie summer sun, having the freedom to dive into your very own pool is a luxury many dream of. It’s the instant relief and pure relaxation you crave in those summer months–and it can all be just a foot away when you open your back door. Understanding the simple joy a pool brings to the home it graces, from a swim with the kids to an evening entertaining friends, is the team that sits behind Aquastone Pools & Landscapes. This is because Gavin Bazley and his brother, both in life and business, have been “building inground concrete swimming pools since 1996,” since then the pair have seen countless clients’ happiness when a pool comes to fruition. The brothers, who both learnt pool construction trade from their father run their family-business with a simple goal: “every client receives a beautiful, quality job that can be enjoyed for years to come!” It’s a goal that’s more than just words; it’s a goal that is met every single day as Aquastone Pools & Landscapes is led with a hands-on approach. Bazley explains “you will find both of us on every single job at every stage.” The team is expert at bringing custom designed pools and landscaping to life, offering a full service from the design phase through to construction. But, according to Bazley, what the company really loves is “specialising in challenging sites and helping a client realise that a pool is possible when they perhaps thought it wasn’t!” This is a company that understands the delight a pool brings to any homeowner, so, no matter the site, if a client wants a pool, this team will ensure that it is created.

SOMETHING STOPPING YOU FROM JUMPING IN?

There are countless reasons why someone could want a pool. Starting with the most obvious reason, swimming, but expanding into hosting pool parties or increasing property value. For Bazley, the reason is as crystal clear as water itself: “I believe a pool has to be the focal part of a home,” and he has never “spoken to someone who has regretted putting in a pool.”

This is because pools are versatile and durable. A pool doubles as both a beautiful design statement within an outdoor area, while actually entertaining the whole family for years to come. However, the choice to jump in and start building can be overshadowed for two reasons.

First: concerns if the land allows for a pool.

Second: uncertainty surrounding pool design.

Both concerns are addressed by Bazley and by the end of this article, both will have sunk to the back of your mind.

DIFFICULT LAND? NO PROBLEM

If your home is on a sloped landsite or built on rocky terrain, it might be easy to think that an inclusion of a pool is near impossible, so why even consider it? But this is exactly the land where the team encourage your pool building fears to disappear.

“We recently completed a pool which had an unused parcel of land which was steep and very rocky … we designed a pool that worked with the land and created a beautiful pool that occupied what was once a completely unused piece of land,” Bazley explained.

“It gave the client a gorgeous new pool and outdoor living area and added a lot of value to their home!”

This is the secret beauty of concrete pools–they can be custom built to suit any block of land. Bazley wants his clients, and all future clients, to no longer think along the lines that “a pool may not be possible if their site is sloped or difficult,” but rather take faith in knowing the team will, and has already, made it work before.

With experience under their belt and pool construction in their blood, the brother duo also offers landscaping. This is the extra service that allows Aquastone Pools & Landscapes to build on such difficult terrain andas the service is all under the one roof, Bazley says the team “can help design the surrounding landscaping that will complement the new pool … including extended paved areas, retaining walls, pool cabanas/shade structures and gardens.” Consider the double offering of pool construction and landscaping as a guarantee for a cohesively designed outdoor entertainment area.

DESIGN CONFUSION? NO PROBLEM

Before construction begins and the first tool is used to build your pool, it is vital that the design layout is right. But deciding on a pools’ design can sometimes be the most difficult part and almost as a cruel joke, it’s also the first hurdle. The team takes time to consult with their clients, and Bazley will always have collaborative approach to ensure the “design suits both the property and the family.” However, if a client is completely unsure on what design would be best for them, Bazley and the team will “sit down and go through options.” By doing so, the team develops a sense of “what’s important to the client, and what sort of design or style they like before going down the design process.”

To help start the thinking process, Bazley has taken some time to explain three current popular pool designs:

The Plunge Pool
“A small pool that suits a small block of land. It is intended to just dip into and cool off … becoming more popular to have a plunge pool now that block sizes are becoming more compact.”

The Lap Pool
“A long, often narrow pool that is designed to swim laps.”

The Suspended Pool
“Built out of the ground, either fully or partially, and can be popular with sloped blocks.”

Knowing the role a pool plays in family life, one design consideration Bazley always aims to carry through his projects is a flow on effect “from the outdoor entertaining area, so that it is easily accessible for adults to sit and supervise children when they are young.” These considerations, from safety to a pools main purpose, are carefully established long before any construction takes place. So, when the first shovel of dirt is moved, you are confident in what the space will become: a beautiful, quality pool that can be enjoyed for years to come.
