Hanging in the Balance

At a generous 9m x 4m, this pool offers its owners ample room to exercise, play with their children and unwind in elegant surrounds. Designed by Clint Gearside and built by the talented team at Riviera Pools, the space perfectly encapsulates the brief given – a place that’s ideal for relaxing and entertaining.

Due to well-chosen materials, the pool and home combine to create a coherent whole; white waterline tiles echo the home’s exterior walls, while a portion of the fence features distinctive black slats reminiscent of the contemporary window frames. Positioned toward the dwelling, the frameless glass fencing offers the owners a pleasing view from indoors.

Showcased throughout the project, natural timber provides the entertaining area with a classic, relaxed aesthetic. The expansive decking gives way to wooden coping around the pool, where the grain of the wood mimics the gentle ripples of the water. The sturdy pergola beams support a luxurious daybed, lending weight and balance to the space, and providing a pleasing transition from the home to the pool.

Featuring whimsical string lights that hang from the pergola, the space is ideal for entertaining as day fades to twilight. The pool’s design includes a wide submerged bench where the younger members of the family can play, and the adults can recline at leisure. With a mineral sanitation system, the water feels as silky smooth as it looks. A low maintenance non-slip finish from Skypebble ensures the pool surface feels good to the touch, too.
