The home owners firstly requested a simple outdoor pool. However, all the available space outdoors was dominated by a tennis court, leaving no perceivable space for a pool. The solution was to design a long sleek lap pool. This was achieved by positioning the swimming pool directly against the wall of the living room, creating a seamless connection, separated only by frameless glass pool fencing when the living room bi-fold doors are opened.
Gabrielle Brock Mitchell was the architect who designed the swimming pool. She was also a design consultant with Haviland Architects for the alterations and additions to the house. This allowed the design of all elements, from the house, pool and garden to connect. An example of this can be seen through the tiling. To reinforce the connection between internal and external space, the same tile was used throughout the internal living room and the pool coping.
Founded in 2000, Contemporary Pool Constructions specialises in the design and construction of in-ground swimming pools throughout Sydney. Company director Gary Mitchell has been a licensed builder for over 30 years, and his wife and business partner, Gabrielle Brock Mitchell, is a registered architect with 20 years of experience in residential architecture.
Gary and Gabrielle’s combined experience allows them to approach the building of a swimming pool with a broader appreciation of the overall project, in particular the connection between internal and external spaces. They have the skills to create a unique design solution that meets the client’s brief and budget.
