Construction Begins

Jul 11, 2018 | Industry News From Issue 18

The City of Sydney is excited to announce that construction of the highly anticipated Gunyama Park Aquatic and Recreation Centre has commenced. Located on Joynton avenue in Zetland, the new aquatic centre will be completed by early 2020. Chosen from 140 entries in a public competition, the centre’s design was created by Andrew Burges Architects. The organic shape of the outdoor pool was inspired by some of Sydney’s iconic beaches and will be constructed by the local company, CPB Contractors. “The Gunyama Park complex will be a terrific place for locals and visitors alike to exercise, relax and catch up with friends and family,” says Lord Mayor Clover Moore. With an indoor area that has a 25m lap pool and a heated hydrotherapy pool, the centre will provide year-round enjoyment. The centre will also feature a crèche, a health and fitness studio and a multipurpose synthetic sports field. Targeting a five-star rating from the Green Building Council of Australia, the complex will also implement a cogeneration energy scheme.
