MARVEL THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS
A DYNAMIC, GEOMETRIC COMBINATION

This stunning project by Senator Pools showcases a magnificent spa and infinity edge combination. Measuring 2.4m x 2.4m, the fully tiled spa is intelligently designed with feature glass that separates the spa from the pool. Glass was utilised again in the infinity edge wall to the pool and balance tank, giving the pool a clear, crisp edge.

The homeowners had a number of requirements and expectations in the design and delivery of the pool. Senator Pools worked closely with the homeowners and encouraged them to take an active role throughout the design process. A number of initial concepts were developed and subsequently refined to produce the desired effect. The pool was to be functional yet elegant, and the design had to respond to the contours of the rear courtyard as well as address the alfresco living area. The design of the spa stands out by differing from the conventional square seating, and a ‘lazy lounge’ for each of the owners was also a necessity.

There is a sense of continual flow in the design of the pool and spa. A series of cascades where the water from the elevated spa flows into the pool and over the glass wall adds an elegant and calming essence. The clever design allows the water to travel into the balance tank below. The blue crystal interior in ‘Corfu’, supplied by Beadcrete, is reminiscent of a resort-style, holiday pool, with the tiling’s name derived from the beautiful Greek island, known as the ‘emerald island’ for it’s well-known greenery.

The filtration equipment incorporates an energy-efficient variable speed pump, while the mineral system by Theralux provides optimum sanitation. The pool was paved with Himalayan sandstone, supplied by Hyda Stone, giving the pool a timeless and warm feel. Himalayan sandstone is extremely hard wearing and is ideal in an Australian environment. Superior LED lighting was achieved with Aquaquip’s Evo2 pool lights.

The spotted gum decking around the 7m x 3.5m pool highlights the functional open area sought by the homeowners. The decking also softens the pool edges and marries the landscape with the pool, creating the coveted theme of continuity throughout the outdoor area. The team encountered some initial challenges, including the undulating contours of the site and rock outcrops, and the homeowners also requested that the spa be positioned so the view of the coastline was visible from within the spa. Senator Pools quashed both roadblocks and successfully carried out the client requests with this ingenious design.

Within the spa itself, the curved lounges were custom-designed and tailored to the individual owners’ shape and profile, which then marries into the glass wall panels. The high-quality touches of frameless fencing allow the pool and surrounds to be admired by all visiting guests from within the home, whilst the beautiful blend of high-quality materials including stone, timber and steel create an impressive modern atmosphere.
