Demonstrating the ability to creatively overcome architectural challenges, the team at Senator Pools delivered a breathtaking pool within this tight, multi-level courtyard. With clean, sharp lines forming a 3m x 3m cube, the pool provides the space with instant ‘wow’ factor.

Seeking respite from the concrete jungle surrounding their inner-city home, the clients sought a design that would maximise the available space to create a courtyard ideal for entertaining and relaxing, while providing an appealing view from within the home. To achieve this, Senator Pools responded with a design that not only compensates for the limited space, but is all flair and sophistication. The pool features an impressive glass panel as well as air-injectors which create a graceful curtain of bubbles that looks particularly striking at sunset. LED lights provided by Aqua-Quip were also installed to illuminate the pool at night.

Using 3D models, the team at Senator Pools worked closely with the clients to craft and refine the design until it was perfect. Once the plans were finalised, the designers kept in close contact during construction of this architecturally challenging project for a faithful result.

Skillfully working with the different levels within the courtyard, the company elevated the pool 2.5 metres above the ground. Throughout the project, Senator Pools’ creativity was put to the test, particularly when bringing materials and equipment into the site. The 2.4m x 2.2m glass panel was lifted in via crane from a narrow rear laneway, while many other materials could only be carried in by hand. With little room to manoeuvre, the team utilised its problem-solving abilities to make this remarkable inner-city plunge pool a reality.

Offering sensational visual appeal, the pool’s interior is lined with bright blue mosaic tiles provided by Bisazza, which contrast strikingly with the pale limestone paving that surrounds it. Instead of looking out onto an under-utilised courtyard the clients now have a much more pleasing view to admire from within the home. In a suburban locale where space is at a premium, and picturesque outdoor spaces are hard to come by, the pool provides the clients with something unique and beautiful to gaze upon.

As well as being stylish, it was important to the clients that the space be functional. With one side of the pool sitting flush against the boundary fence, no space was wasted. On the opposite side, the pool gives way to a suite of steps, offering direct access from the courtyard to the rear laneway beyond.

The pool structure features a submerged bench, which is just the right height to bask in the sun and overlook the courtyard. Also designed and established by Senator Pools, the landscaping includes generously sized limestone pavers provided by Artisan Stone. The simple yet stately paving perfectly frames the pool’s glass panel feature, letting it shine. Designed with entertaining in mind, a bench with built-in barbecue runs the remaining length of the courtyard, offering family and friends another area in which to gather.

Making efficient use of energy as well as space, the pool features a filtration system by Theralux, allowing the clients to enjoy a clean and healthy mineral pool while reducing their amenity bills. Gas heating maintains a comfortable water temperature all year round.
