CONTEMPORARY AND INNOVATIVE
A LOW-MAINTENANCE ALFRESCO HAVEN

Designed and constructed by Urban Escape Landscaping & Pools, this trans-seasonal, multi-functional space provides resort-living experiences all year-round. Named the winner of the SPASA National Pool of the Year 2019, this project showcases the importance of balancing pool design and landscape construction.

The solar-heated, 10m x 4m pool is fully tiled in glass mosaics and includes stepping-stones that have a floating appearance. The gas-heated spa has a raised glass wet edge with a sheer descent water feature. The pool is fully automated, with in-floor cleaning and eclectic colour-changing lights. Two multi-speed pumps service the pool and the water feature, while a rainwater tank tops up the pool and waters the extensive garden through an integrated irrigation system. Hardwood was used for the surrounding decking and limestone for the paving and walls of the raised plantar along the side of the pool.

The homeowners wanted spaces that could be utilised during summer and in off-seasons. The alfresco zones include a firepit zone with in-built seating, a barbeque and entertaining area that promotes communal activities. With space to relax poolside, an outdoor shower and a cabana, this relaxing abode is equipped for various uses throughout the year.

While the pool is the centrepiece of the garden, it was cleverly integrated into the landscape. The team designed around existing boxelder and jacaranda trees to ensure the garden retained its mature, established appearance.

Urban Escape Landscaping & Pools is the brainchild of landscaper Nick McCarthy, who started the business more than 20 years ago. The move into pool construction stemmed from McCarthy’s desire to ensure swimming pools became an integrated part of the landscape and garden.

The company has a clear, but simple vision of working closely with clients to create their garden oasis by using superior workmanship and flair. It is the ever-evolving nature of the landscape and swimming pool industry which keeps the team of qualified horticulturists and tradesmen inspired and excited to remain at the forefront of the industry. The team builds 8-10 projects per year and services the Sydney north shore and Northern Beaches.
