PERFECT TRANSFORMATION

A REMARKABLE RENOVATION

This home’s original pool dominated the outdoor space and restricted access to the raised lawn area. By reducing the size of the pool and removing the swim-outs and spa, GOODMANORS Pools + Gardens has improved the circulation throughout the garden and created a pool that is in proportion with the house and garden.

The owners of the home wanted a contemporary space that the entire family could enjoy, where their teenagers could lounge around the pool and they could sit and relax while reading a book.

GOODMANORS Pools + Gardens completed the entire renovation including design, construction and landscaping. This allowed for seamless transitions between each process, right through to completion.

Using clean lines and simplicity, GOODMANORS Pools + Gardens has created a contemporary, practical space with timeless appeal. The palette of materials works in total harmony, while the plant selection uses layers to create a lush feel.

Reshaped to a clean 5m x 3m rectangle, the concrete pool features a luxurious interior of 50mm x 50mm ceramic blue tiles. These are brought to life at night by Spa Electrics underwater lighting. With the environment in mind, the pool features a MagnaPool mineral system.

The deep blue interior is set against classic 600mm x 600mm travertine coping and paving in ‘Nutmeg’. The seated area features sandstone, complemented by the warmth of spotted gum timber, which has been used throughout the space.

Weatherproof cushions are a practical addition to the seated area.

Rainforest-inspired Elaeocarpus eumundii, Waterhousia floribunda, Syzygium ‘Cascade’ and Elaeagnus macropyhlla were selected for screening, while Philodendron ‘Xanadu’, Ctenanthe setosa, Elettaria cardamoum and Alpinia zerumbet create shaded areas. Hymenocallis caribaea, Alternanthera dentate, Beschomeria yuccoides and Senicio serpens add texture and contrast in the sunny spots.

GOODMANORS Pools + Gardens was established by Raoul Van de Laak and Ron Berkelmans in 1986. As well as renovations like the project featured here, the company also designs and constructs new concrete pools, as well as the surrounding landscape, making the process smooth and straightforward for the client.

The quality of the company’s work is reflected in its accomplishments, including a gold award for Innovation (state and metropolitan award), gold award for Renovations Over $20,000 (state and metropolitan award), silver award for Renovations Under $20,000 (metropolitan award) and bronze award for Renovations Over $20,000 (metropolitan award) at the 2009 Swimming Pool and Spa Association (SPASA) Awards.

At the 2009 LC A Awards for Excellence GOODMANORS Pools + Gardens also won the Residential To $75,000 award, Residential $76,000–$200,000 award and the Residential Over $200,000 award.
