Dissatisfied with their existing pool and backyard, the owners of this property approached GOODMANORS Pool + Garden wanting a pool that wouldn’t dominate their outdoor space, but would still provide a place for their children to play. They also wanted a space to relax and entertain, which would complement the house.

GOODMANORS Pool + Garden listened to the clients’ needs and formed a brief with them at the initial consultation. The company worked with the homeowners and kept them informed and updated throughout the renovation process. By reducing the size of the pool, the homeowners were able to gain a significant amount of functional space and open up the once permanently locked bi-fold doors that were forming part of the pool fence.

A standout feature of the renovated space is the quality of the tiling and the attention to detail. After being reduced to 6m x 2.5m, the concrete pool was fully tiled with 25mm x 25mm Ezarri mosaic tiles, to stunning effect. The interior is complemented by two Spa Electrics flush-mounted LED pool lights.

As well as the pool renovation, GOODMANORS Pool + Garden designed and built the surrounding landscaping. By clearly separating the outdoor space into two useable levels, the company has provided unique spaces for outdoor entertaining and relaxation, which complement each other and provide a seamless transition between the indoor and outdoor spaces.

The success of the space is in part due to the considered combination of materials and finishes. The vibrant mosaic pool tiles are complemented by bluestone coping. Bluestone has been used throughout the space, paired with spotted gum timber decking. Spotted gum was selected to complement the house and to provide a natural and tactile material to the design.

Complementing the house, the neutral tones and contemporary feel of the selected materials work to form a fluid connection between the indoors and outdoors, blending harmoniously to create a space that feels as one.

The range of plant species has been kept to a minimum, with a focus on providing contrast through lush greens, foliage shape and texture and the occasional splash of colour and fragrance.

As well as bringing the pool up to date aesthetically, the homeowners also wanted to ensure that the renovations brought the pool up to the latest safety standards, ensuring it would be compliant with new regulations. Frameless glass was selected for the pool fence, fulfilling the safety brief without compromising the space’s aesthetic appeal.

GOODMANORS Pool + Garden was established by Raoul Van de Laak and Ron Berkelmans in 1986. Focusing on quality rather than quantity, the company completes a select number of projects each year, primarily throughout the Sydney metropolitan area.

As well as renovations like the project featured here, the company also designs and constructs new concrete pools, as well as the surrounding landscape, making the process smooth and straightforward for the client. The company’s services also include maintenance.

GOODMANORS Pool + Garden recognises the importance of a garden as an oasis for its owners – be it a place for recreation, relaxation, entertainment, exercise or simply contemplation. The company’s passion is to build and maintain these garden oases in a sustainable way to ensure their longevity.
